What is Tapping (EFT)?
It's well-known that mind and body are connected and that everything is energy.
With these understandings, Tapping incorporates the foundational principle that disease, pain (emotional, spiritual, or physical), and mental wellbeing are intricately connected to our emotional states. Change our emotional states, and change in our mental and physical landscape will follow.
Our bodies have energy systems that utilize pathways called meridians. By tapping on the endpoints of these meridians, while also voicing the area(s) in our life causing distress, we stimulate this energy system, enabling blocked energy to release and flow naturally. Our bodies feels safe, and resolution can be found. Imbalanced emotional states come into balance. Unhealthy expressions of behaviour become healthier expressions.
How does Tapping work?
Perhaps seemingly counter-intuitive, Tapping begins by acknowledging what's bothering us; by calling the shadow into the light. "I'm afraid of change." "My weight is out of control." "This constant anxiety is killing me." "I never have enough money." "I'm angry and it's eating me up inside." This list is endless.
Focussing on the negative emotions engages the limbic system in the brain, (the system responsible for our fight/flight/freeze response), as well as the body's energy system. We also state that even though we feel this way or are having this negative experience, we're still willing to accept ourselves as we are, thus encouraging a sense of safety and hope. And, again, when we change our internal landscape (our emotions, beliefs, perceptions), changes in our mental and physical landscape are right behind.
We then tap on eight spots on the upper body, simultaneously stating the positive changes we're willing to receive; the out-dated beliefs we're willing to set down; the different perspectives we're willing to engage.
Who can learn this, and how long does it take?
Tapping is easy. ANYONE can learn it in a matter of minutes. It's also a skill you can take with you wherever you go and use repeatedly, regardless of age or circumstance. It's painless, simple, requires no props...and is effective.
